A variety of scholarship opportunities come through the Guidance Office. Keep up your search throughout the school year. Pay close attention to deadlines. You cannot be awarded a scholarship if you don't apply or miss the deadline.

Follow the tips below to maximize your scholarship search.


Check out the financial aid link on the website(s) of the college(s) to which you are applying. Your best source of financial help is often your college. Apply for all scholarships for which you are eligible.


Read the "Guidance News Brief" regularly to stay up-dated on scholarship opportunities. It is printed approximately every 10 days and is distributed to all teachers to post in their classrooms. It can also be found on the school website under "Guidance Newsletter" or by clicking on the button below:

The Coca−Cola Scholars Foundation evaluates applicants on the basis of demonstrated leadership in academics, school, community and civic activities, as well as personal character and the motivation to serve and succeed.
Applications are available at and must be completed online and submitted by October 31st of the student’s senior year.
ACS Scholars Program Scholarships for African American, Hispanic, and American Indian Chemical Science Students

ACS awards renewable scholarships to underrepresented minority students who want to enter the fields of chemistry or chemistry-related fields. Awards of up to $5,000* are given to qualified students. African American, Hispanic, or American Indian high school seniors or college freshman, sophomores, or juniors pursuing a college degree in the chemical sciences or chemical technology are eligible to apply.
AWS Foundation Scholarships

In its commitment to improve America’s productivity, the AWS Foundation provides funding assistance to
help students wishing to pursue vocational, community college, or a degree program in a welding or related
field of study. Scholarship recipients are selected annually at AWS District Conferences.
Gates Millennium Scholarships
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding low income African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline they choose. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence by providing thousands of outstanding students, who have significant financial need, the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Iowa Financial Aid Application combines applications for six undergraduate student financial aid programs into one application process. Collectively, these programs provided over $7 million in funding for students in 2009-10 academic year. Scholarship Award
Through its Education and Leadership Development Program, the Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to $7,500 annually to minority high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice.

Most are based on factors such as financial need, community involvement, leadership, program or area of study, or other requirements. The Walmart Associate Scholarship (Formerly Higher Reach Scholarship)
A college scholarship is available to Walmart and Sam’s Club associates.
Awards are based on demonstrated financial need and community involvement.

The Walmart Dependent Scholarship (Formerly Walmart Associate Scholarship)
The Walmart Dependent Scholarship is a $13,000 scholarship paid out over four years. *Applicants must be dependents of Walmart or Sam’s Club associates in any U.S. division, have at least a 2.0 high school GPA and prove financial need.
The Alcoa Foundation Sons and Daughters Scholarship Program awards college scholarships to the children of Alcoa Inc. employees. Scholarships are for $1,500 annually and are renewable for either one or three years, provided the student meets specific academic requirements.
=How It Works=
Eligible children must apply between October and January of their senior year of high school. Students already in college are not eligible to apply for an award. Applicants are required to submit an application (which includes a short essay) and a letter of recommendation. Students applying for the 4-year award must also submit an ACT or SAT score.

High school seniors entering into physics teacher preparation curricula
